Jan Hornung holds a PhD in physics, is a qualified German and European Patent Attorney, and qualified to represent clients before the future Unified Patent Court. After having successfully finished an additional study of intellectual property rights at the department of law at the Humboldt-University, Jan entered the profession as an in-house counsellor with the Patent Department of Siemens AG where he worked in the field of semiconductor technology. He initially joined Zimmermann & Partner before moving to London for two years where he worked in a well-established Patent and Trademark law firm.
After rejoining Zimmermann & Partner, Jan has built up a considerable body of experiences in all aspects of intellectual properties rights. At Zimmermann & Partner, Jan mainly works in the fields of semiconductor technology, automotive systems, electronics, medical technology, and biophysics. He specializes in advising clients on patent protection, filing strategies, and patent enforcement including preparation of non-infringement, validity, and clearance opinions.
Jan graduated in physics at the Humboldt-University in Berlin with emphasis on optics, obtaining a PhD in biophysics. During his time as a PhD student, Jan received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation.
